William Sydnor Thomson, Confederate soldier, lawyer, and educator, was born 12 April 1843, in Summit Point, Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and died 22 December 1913, in Atlanta, Georgia. Thomson taught in Calhoun County in East Tennessee (1860), served with the 12th Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War, moved to Marietta, Georgia, after the war, and was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1866.
